Food Allergies & Special Diets
Allergies, intolerances and special diets are an increasingly important consideration when ordering cakes. Approximately half our cake orders include some dietary requirement!
You can order Gluten Free and Nut Free cakes online, phone and email.
There are three ways to order for yourself/guests with special diet or allergy needs:
1. Order the whole cake to meet your dietary needs and so minimise any risks of cross contamination when the cake is dismantled, cut and served.
2. Order (for example) a gluten free tier as part of the main cake (use the “Special Requirements/Allergy Information” text box found on the checkout page during ordering).
NB If you/your guest cannot tolerate even traces of a particular food, then you are safest to order all parts of your cake to be free from the particular ingredient, to avoid possible contamination when the cake is dismantled and served.
3. Order a separate, labelled box of allergy free cupcakes or gift-boxed cake or extra portion cake, for yourself or guests with particular requirements, using the “extra portion cakes section”.
We understand that the last thing you want, on your event, is to worry about allergies, either for yourself, or any guests, so if you need to order an allergy free cake, please read the general advice section below and also the section relating to your particular needs.
General Advice
Even if you don’t think it’s a particular issue for your chosen cake, it is extremely important that you make us aware of any dietary issues that may affect how we make your cake.
1. Please tell us if you/your guests have a food related allergy, so that we can ensure your cake meets these needs. This is done in the “Special Requirements/Allergy Information” text box, for the main cake, or in the “extra portion cakes” section if you are ordering a separate gift cake/ cupcake gift box or extra portion cake for those with special dietary needs.
2. When you have placed your order, please also check your order confirmation to ensure that your allergy/dietary needs are noted.
3. Since allergies/special diets affect everyone differently, once your order has been processed, we will also want to speak to you or your guest by phone to make sure we fully understand your needs, so please call us at least one month before your wedding if you have not heard from us. PLEASE ENSURE THAT WE HAVE FULL CONTACT DETAILS
4. If you discover food issues after you have ordered, please call us as soon as possible and (as long as your cake hasn’t been baked!) we can update your order.
What We Do:
We are very careful about the ingredients that enter our kitchens. All our ingredients are selected and stored carefully so we can control what goes into our cakes; our suppliers certify the ingredients and handling of items which may contain allergens. If you want to discuss particular details with us, please call us to do so.
We are also careful about food handling, we bake and store allergy/special diet cakes separately.
If you order a special diet or allergy cake (extra portions, cupcakes or gift cake) from the “Extra Portion Cakes” section. It is immediately placed in a separate box ready for delivery or collection.
Advice On Specific Diet/Allergy Issues
Gluten & Wheat Free
We are happy to make gluten and wheat free cakes. This can be whole cakes, cupcakes or particular tiers.
When ordering your cake, simply put (for example) “top tier gluten free” in the “Comments” box, this does not affect your opportunity to select flavours as normal.
NB. There is a small risk of cross contamination with other tiers when the cake is dismantled and cut by your venue. Should this be a problem, we recommend that you purchase a gift-box of gluten free cupcakes or a separate gift cake for you or your guest. These can be found in the “Extra Portion Cakes” section.
